Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022
In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old. There was a year-long Platinum Jubilee celebration throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world as communities and people come together to celebrate The Queen’s historic reign.
The Jubilee celebrations and the extended bank holiday ran from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, providing an excellent opportunity for us to come together as a Community and celebrate this historic milestone. Your Community Council in association with the Spooner Row Suton & Wattlefield Village Hall Committee and the Spooner Row Primary School joined forces to organise two events on Thursday 2nd June 2022.
Coronation Themed Party
The Village Hall Committee, and the Spooner Row Primary School held a free to attend coronation themed street party in the Spooner Row Village Hall on the afternoon of Thursday 2nd June, for children between 4 and 12 years of age who live within our community or attend Spooner Row Primary School. The party involved a fancy dress competition along with other games, and all those who attend will received a commemorative mug as a gift. The Party was also open to the older residents within our community, some of whom may remember the Queen’s Coronation.
Platinum Jubilee Party on the Playing Field
The United Kingdom has a long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons and this will be continued to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
On the evening of Thursday 2nd June 2022, commencing at 6:30 PM, Spooner Row Community Council hosted a Platinum Jubilee Party on Spooner Row Playing Field, which culminated with the inaugural lighting, at 9:45 PM, of a permanent beacon installed on the playing field for our community. The event was free to attend and included live music, with The Lee Vasey Band as the headline act. There was a bar plus food outlets providing hog roast and pizzas; alternatively many brought their own picnic. The event was open to anyone who wished to party with their neighbours, friends and family.
Beacon Trail

Leading up to the day’s celebrations, children and adults could take part in our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail form 30th April. The trail was an experience where players visited seven characters that came to life from Buckingham Palace and visited Spooner Row, Suton and Wattlefield on a day out. Guided by Sir Barnaby Beacon you could visit each character and learn about each decade of the Queen’s reign, whilst also enjoying some of the footpaths around our community. At each character’s location, kids and adults could scan a QR Code to collect digital stamps and engage with their story through answering questions and choosing how to progress your adventure. The characters came to life in their surroundings through augmented reality. Once all 7 digital stamps had been collected you were rewarded for your efforts!
