Platinum Jubilee Party on the Playing Field

The United Kingdom has a long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons and this will be continued to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.

On the evening of Thursday 2nd June 2022, commencing at around about 6:30 PM, Spooner Row Community Council will be hosting a Platinum Jubilee Party on Spooner Row Playing Field, which will culminate with the inaugural lighting, at 9:45 PM, of a permanent beacon which will be installed on the playing field for our community. The event will be free to attend and will include live music, with The Lee Vasey Band as the headline act. There will also be a bar plus food outlets providing hog roast and pizzas; alternatively feel free to bring your own picnic. This event is open to anyone who wishes to party with their neighbours, but also feel free to invite other friends and family from further afield. Discounted food tickets will be available to purchase in advance of the event through http://www.eventbrite.co.uk.

Tickets: The Eventbright site has details of both the food and entrance tickets.

  • Food Tickets - Can be pe-purchased at a considerable discount to the cost price. Purchasing food tickets in advance also allows us track the likely numbers we need to cater for on the night.
  • Entrance Tickets - Are free and will be entered in a draw on the night for a number of donated prizes. These tickets also allow us to track attendance numbers so please get these even if you do not wish to pre-purchase food.

Thanks

Did you know that Queen Victoria’s Jubilee was celebrated by the lighting of beacons? In 1897, beacons were lit to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee.

In 1977, 2002 and 2012, beacons commemorated the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees of The Queen and in 2016 Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

And now in 2022 you can toast Her Majesty and her Platinum Jubilee at our get together on Spooner Row Playing Field on Thursday 2nd June. Our event starts at 6.30pm and we will light the beacon at 9.45pm. We have a Licenced Bar for the evening, along with a hog roast, pizza, and vegan Option of food. Lee Vasey Band is our entertainment for the night and we even have a free Raffle!

Go to our website to register spoonerrow.cc (this helps us calculate numbers) or give us a ring and we will do it for you on 01953 605450 or contact any councillor (details are on the website).

Hi - having attended the Beacon lighting on the Playing Field last night I want to congratulate the Community Council and especially those who organised it for a great event. It looked like it was very well attended and everyone I spoke to said how good it was. It's great to see things bring the community together and hopefully this will inspire more. Paul J
